Has anyone been to a restaurant called Jones Bros. Cupcakes in Aksarben Village? A friend suggested that we meet there for lunch next week, and although I know nothing about the place, just the fact that it has the word "cupcakes" in the name is sufficient for me. Also, I think I'll definintely have to get at least one cupcake because how can you go to a restaurant like this and not have cupcakes? That would just be SO WRONG!!! I'll post after I've been there.

I went shortly after they opened in May. I had lunch with a friend - yes, there is more than cupcakes there! I liked my food (and lunch came with a free mini cupcuke) but I thought it was fairly expensive for lunch. Of course, I had to pick up a full size cupcake to sample after lunch and therefore, my total spent at lunch was close to $15. I remember the cupcakes being in the $3-4 range, which is pretty expensive for a cupcake! The atmosphere is really nice - you can sit outside or inside and they have a coffee and wine bar too.
On another note, we went to Bliss down in Old Market this weekend for cupcakes (yes, we love them) and the cupcakes we sampled were FANTASTIC. I'd say I enjoyed the ones from Bliss more than the ones from Jones Bros. You should check out Bliss (at 10th & Jones) after you go to Jones Bros for a true taste test comparison. And do it in the name of website research...! |

Well, if I have to eat more cupcakes to make this a better world, then for the love of humanity, I'm prepared to do it! Thanks for the tip on Bliss, Hockeymom! It would be fun to do an immediate side-by-side comparison, but unfortunately, the cupcakes I purchase from whichever place I go to first will never last until I manage to make it to the second cupcake destination.

I've also eaten at Jones Bros - it was expensive for a cupcake which wasn't any larger than what I bake - but it was very yummy - I had the Red Velvet cupcake.
I also had lunch, it was $8 for a sandwich with no sides. :*( The sandwich was very good, but I haven't gone back. Now I did go to the deli at Wohlners & they had great food at reasonable prices & the piece of cake I had was great. I didn't realize that they actually have a full menu of breakfast, salads, burgers, & sandwiches - not just the normal deli food of a grocery store - and a nice area for eating it all. I'll definitely be going back there. |

A friend and I had lunch at Jones Bros. Cupcakes today. We both loved the atmoshphere, a very "downtown" kind of look that somehow manages to be modern with a little bit of retro thrown in. The outdoor seating area looked very nice, but it was too humid for me to want to try it today. It would be fun to sit out there in the evening, though.
For lunch, I had the Nebraska Roast Beef Sandwich. It was served on a baguette with an herbed cream cheese and was very tasty. My friend had a curry dish made with chicken and basamati rice. She said that it was delicious, but would have been even better if it had been a little warmer. I ordered a Black & White cupcake, and my friend ordered a Sweet & Salty one, so we split them in two and shared. My tongue hit the frosting portion of my cupcake first and it was completely luscious with a smooth, velvety texture. The cake part of the cupcake, however, was a little disappointing. It was just so-so, like something you would make at home from a mix, and it was a bit dry. I had the same experience when I tasted the other cupcake. My expectations might have been a little too high, but let's face it, if you're going to put the word "cupcakes" in your business name, then they need to be pretty extraordinary. If the flavor and texture of the cake portion of cupcakes could be made to match that of the frosting, they would be in this category. The total bill for lunch, which included two entrees, two sodas and two cupcakes, came to $27.61, which is a bit on the pricey side. Would I go to this restaurant again? It's pretty far from where I live, so I wouldn't make a special trip there, but if I were in the area already, I might be inclined to give it a second try. My friend and I met the owner, and it turns out that Jones Bros. Cupcakes is a family business, and they're all working very hard to make it a success by continuing to search for ways to improve both the food and the service. Being a small business owner myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for others in the same situation and want to give them the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. I'd like to try the restaurant at night because they also have a wine bar, and I think it would be a fun place to stop after a movie or another activity.

Glad you liked it! I just saw on Facebook, that they were approached by Cupcake Wars to try to do an audition tape to get on the show - they are filming Saturday at 11am if you want to help fill up the place.
