I took my 5-year-old to the Kindergarten Traffic Safety Training Program at the Westroads Mall today. He really enjoyed meeting the police officers and a firefighter and touring a school bus, and he was able to tell me afterward what he had learned. Even though he won't be taking a bus to school, he still learned a lot of useful information about traffic and fire safety. It's all things I've tried to teach him over the last couple of years, but I figure there's no harm in reiterating it. Also, I hope that certain information might have a more lasting impression when it's related by someone other than mom. I have the concern that as my son grows older, he will stop listening to me, and it will be like the "Peanuts" cartoons and shows where all the kids hear when adults are talking is, "Blah, blah, blah . . . ."
The program is about 45-minutes long, so I just relaxed with a mocha light from Scooter's while he was gone.
