My 6-year-old son recently expressed an interest in martial arts classes. I know that there are many different kinds of martial arts, as well as a million different teachers and studios out there. Does anyone have any recommendations about what type of class might be suitable for a 6-year-old? And, does anyone have any recommendations on teachers and/or studios that you have used and like? I live in Bennington, so it would be nice to find something that isn't too horribly far from me. Thanks a million!

the Nebraska Academy of Martial Arts (NAMA) has been wonderful. The owner's name is Kim Woolery. She is great, and the rest of the instructors are wonderful. It is located at 90th and Maplewood Blvd.

Premier (yes the gymnastics place) is supposed to have a great martial arts program. It might be worth a call. Also, a friend brings her son to a place they absolutely love on 156th and Maple--I just don't know the name of it. Does anyone else know?

My school just opened. We are located at 63rd and Maple. The name is the Sakura Academy of Omaha. www.sakuraomaha.com (http://www.sakuraomaha.com) mention momsofomaha.com and received lessons for $20 a month per person.

My twins go to Midwest Taekwondo at 88th & Blondo. They really like it there. The instructor really wants to see the kids succeed. Before they can test for the next belt the parents have to sign a form indicating that the kids are showing "black belt behavior" at home. If they are not cooperating at school or at home he won't let them test for the next level.
