The story on the homepage about the New Neighbors League in Omaha is worth telling newcomers about. I bet some of the people who've posted on the forums that they're planning a move here would be especially interested in it. I wonder if companies that transfer employees to a new city try to find support groups like this to help the transition. Not many, I'd guess.

Hi, drobyn.

Thanks for your comments. We posted the item on our home page because we thought it would be helpful to a lot of our members who are transplants to Omaha. I've spent quite a bit of time looking at the group's website, and it looks like such a fun group that I wish I could join. However, having been born in Omaha and having lived here my entire life (I'll probably die here, too, but oh well, there are worse places to be from), I think I'm pretty clearly disqualified from membership.

If anyone out there has been or currently is a member of the New Neighbors League of Omaha, would you please write and share your experiences with us? Your responses would be so helpful to our members (and there are many) who are new to the Omaha area. Thanks!

I am a member of New Neighbors' League--and interestingly, I was born and raised in Omaha! We moved to another state for a few years; when we came back, I was approached about being in this group. I have to say, at first I was hesitant--would they all be old ladies?, would there be cliques already?, would they do everything during the day when I can't? Lots of questions.

But I joined anyway--and I LOVE it!!! One of the best things is that they have daycare for the monthly coffees and luncheons--for free! There are lots of activities--some during the day, some in the evenings, and some on the weekends. Also, the age range of the women is great. I have two young children and have met many other moms with young kids too. But there are also women with grown kids, grandkids, and even great-grandkids.

FYI--two or three months out of the year (February is one), there is open enrollment for anyone who would like to join. If you are looking to meet people and to get out of the house once in a while, this could be a great organization for you--it was for me. If you'd like more information, or have questions, please feel free to contact me through a private message.
