We put in a new lawn and I'm a little concerned about making sure it will take off in the spring. Can anyone recommend a good lawn service? I've used Chemlawn in the past, but they call so often to cross-sell add-on products that it makes we want to throw my phone away.

I hear ya on Chemlawn. I hated their hard-sell tactics. Whenever I said no to one of their add-ons, they would continue to try to pressure me into agreeing to it. They'd often have kind of a condescending attitude, like I was making some grave lawn mistakes.

I finally just ended up doing my own lawn treatments and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected.

Sorry I don't have any recommendations, though.

Thanks, Bethany. I think the do-it-yourself approach is probably the way I'll go. I remember when Chemlawn tried to get me to pay to rid my trees of insects. They put a leaf that had a few bug-bites on it in a plastic bag and added a label that read "LOOK WHAT WE FOUND!" Uh, yeah, leaves have a few holes in them from the occasional bug. I don't have to panic about it.

I used to live in Missouri, The cave state, home of many, many, many limestone caves, limestone rocks, limestone in general. There were literally big ol' limestone boulders all along the interstate close to my house. Chemlawn would call and almost demand to put lime on my lawn. I'm like, there is already plenty o' limestone in my dirt, please go away. And they were like "YOU ARE DUMB YOUR LAWN NEEDS LIME."
