Has anyone ever heard of Innovation Research? They conduct taste testing for food products. I think it might be Con Agra food products, but I will have to check to be sure. I have a couple of friends who work for them periodically. You go in and do taste tests for an hour or two, and then they pay you. My friends go in for an hour or two and taste apple pies or sausages or whatever and then get a check for $50, $60, or $75 dollars. I've always meant to try it myself, but I never did when my son was younger because I would have had to get a babysitter for him, and it would have been too much trouble. However, now that he's in school all day, I think I'm going to give it a try. It's not a lot of money, but it could pay for my shoe and handbag habits.

The other day, I was at Westroads when I saw a sign reading that they need kids ages 6-18 to do taste tests. I was telling Pa Barker about this when Aidan piped up and said, "I want to do that! I want to taste food!" I said, "Really?" And he said, "Yeah mommy, I want to do it!" Now, I've never seriously considered having him seek employment outside our home until he's old enough to mow lawns or bag groceries or something, but I thought this might actually be something I'd let him do, if I could check it out sufficiently beforehand. Since he's so young, I'd want to remain on the premises while he's "working," and as a worrywart, there are some other questions I would have, but I'm going to check this out. I told him that I might let him do it. I think I'd let him spend part of the money he earned and then save the rest in a savings account.

Here's the information on Innovation Research if you want to check it out:

A good freind of mine has had her 8-year-old son "working" for them for quite some time. They go to their office but do most of the taste testing at home, I believe. Both son and mom really love it--and the money is pretty good too I hear.

That sounds really great!! Can always use some extra cash, as long as the food they're testing isn't full of a bunch of bad-for-you-stuff :)

Hi, Cher.

I believe they tell you ahead of time what you'd be testing, and you can either accept or refuse. I also think that the sample sizes are pretty small. Before I call, I'm going to make a list of my concerns/questions to ask about.
