I saw Atonement yesterday, and I give it two thumbs way up! It's definitely in my list of top 10 movies for 2007, and it's even in my top 5 list, as well. I think it might even be in my top 2 or 3 even. It's a beautiful love story, but very tragic.

A precocious, imaginative 13-year-old girl invents a story about events that she is not mature enough to comprehend. Her story results in her sister's lover being imprisoned for a crime that he never committed. While he's in prison, England becomes involved in World War II, and he has the opportunity to be released if he agrees to become a soldier and fight the Germans. The movie follows him during his time in the British army, and it also follows the lives of the two sisters. The younger sister gradually comprehends the full extent of her actions and spends the rest of her life trying to "atone."

The story is beautiful and beautifully cast. All of the actors are absolutely magnificent in the roles for which they were chosen. The chemistry between two of the main characters, Keira Knightley and James McEvoy is astonishing. The photography is excellent; it captures both the beauty of the English countryside and the brutality of World War II in Europe.

This movie is a must-see, so don't miss it! However, as beautiful as it is, it is almost unbearably sad, so make sure you take a lot of tissues with you!
