I also saw American Ganster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe this weekend. It is excellent. The story is very gripping, and Washington and Crowe do a fantastic job of portraying a drug lord and an undercover cop respectively. This movie contains a fair amount of graphic violence and a number of other scenes, such as junkies getting high or overdosing, that some viewers might find too difficult or upsetting to watch. However, the violence in this movie is not gratuitous. It is essential to the story, and it propels the plot and the characters in the directions they need to go for the story to be told.

The movie is based on a true story about a drug lord in 1970's Harlem and the police officer who took his operation down. In the process, the police officer also uncovered the military's involvement in drug trafficking, and he also found out that three-fourths of New York's Drug Enforcement Agency were involved. It's fascinating, so go see it if you have a chance.
