I saw Beowulf this last weekend, and I hated it. I have just one word to call it -- Porno. It may be high-tech porno, but it's still just porno nonetheless. It's pure, non-stop, bloody, gory, violent pornography with no redeeming values whatsoever. The movie has no good plot line, no character development, no message, nothing substantial to offer at all. If this movie represents the future of cinema, then I weep for the future.

I had to laugh when I read what one reviewer wrote of the actor who plays Beowulf. By the way, in the movie, Beowulf really seems to enjoy both lounging around on the mead hall floor and fighting while he's nude or almost nude. Interesting, huh? Anyway, this reviewer made some cautionary remark to the effect that we ladies should remember that the actor who plays Beowulf, I think his name is Paul Whitstone or something like that, looks nothing like the Beowulf we see on the screen. He was talking about the electronic maneuvering employed by the movie makers to make the actor look tall, buff, and perfect in every way.

Well, I think that the reviewer should have taken the same opportunity to caution male viewers about Angelina Jolie's appearance in the movie. When Angelina, who plays the mother of the monster Grendel, arises from the water or the murk or whatever it is she lives in, she resembles a lush and voluptuous mermaid-like creature, albeit with a nasty stinger tail. At her appearance, several men in the audience around me literally moaned and groaned and just generally seemed to lose control of themselves for a moment. And at that point, I had to wonder if these audience members realized that she doesn't really look like this -- that while she is undoubtedly very beautiful, she is also extremely emaciated and does not in fact sport the breasts and hips that she was given by the movie's makers. Just wondering.
