Camp Munroe is a recreational day camp program which runs from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m Monday through Friday, for six weeks during the summer. This day camp program is offered for children and youth ages 2 ½ through 21 with developmental disabilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida and/or genetic disorders. The program’s mission is to offer children and youth with developmental disabilities a summer camp experience that can meet their individual needs while providing opportunities for recreational play and social interaction with peers.
Each participant is assigned to a group of 12 campers of similar age. The group is under the supervision of trained recreational therapists, activity technicians and volunteers. The camp day format is divided into 45 minute activity sessions. Groups transition through three activities each morning and afternoon and have an hour for lunch. Activities include art, cooking, swimming, sports/games, music and community outings. Once a week each group goes on a field trip in the community. Field trip sites include Henry Doorly Zoo, Children’s Museum, Adventures in Art, martial arts, community pools, Maplewood Lanes Bowling Center and movies.
Parents or guardians must provide or arrange transportation to and from camp. Transportation will be provided for field trips and special activities.
