Hello: Do your children attend a Catholic school in Omaha/Elkhorn? If so, where and what how has your experience been? How do they compare with local districts? Are you happy with your decision to go private? Thanks so much in advance for any feedback you could offer!

I'd like to know, too. It seems the only options to public schools are religious schools. It would be nice to have a third choice - I guess a private school that's no hugely expensive like Brownell Talbot.

See this post to find test score info for public schools in Nebraska. I wonder if the Catholic schools around the area have comparable information available?

Hi! My son is now in a Catholic School - we're really happy with it. This particular school runs a pretty tight ship, and has full time music and art teachers which was important to us. The teachers are wonderful and the whole atmosphere is nurturing. Each scool is going to be different, but I'm really happy with this one. Hope that helps :)

I have grown up here in Omaha and attended both Catholic and public schools. I got a better education in the Catholic schools, but it was a horrible experience socially. Lots of pressure to conform and be one of the popular crowd. When I was in public schools, I didn't get as great of an education, but I did better socially by not having to be one of the sheep to be accepted. Also, there was more opportunities for extracurricular activities in public schools. So I think it is a toss up. You have to decide what is best for your children on an individual basis.

Thats a good post. I went to public school here but always wondered what the Cathoilc schools were like. Tjhey always had the reputation for having more discipline but i guess there can be a price to pay for that, too.

This is totally off the subject but ...FireSong!! I love that name!! I've been holding a city-wide event for the past couple of years for musicians in Catholic churches called "FireSong!!" What a hoot! How did you get that name? Very cool :)

Does anyone have children attending either St Sptephens or St Wenseslaus? Any comments (good or not so good) on either would be helpful as we are considering transfering our sons to one of these next year. Thanks!

I nannied for a family for 5 years who have 5 boys. They send 4 of them to St. Wenseslaus and love it. It's very academic and very structured. I was a teacher for a year (at a different Catholic School) and heard nothing but wonderful things about that school. Hope this helps you!:)

My kids go to a Catholic school. We love the structure and parent involvement, that they go to mass at least once a week, and uniforms keep me from having to put outfits together every morning. Our school costs about $1700 / year. We are looking at $8000 for the 1st year of HS at an all girls school, but most schools are willing to work with you. I know of an incoming freshman that will be spending $3500.
