Did anyone see the article in Monday's paper on the Hefflinger Dog Park and how popular it's become? Lately, I have frequently thought of taking my dog Kirby over there because I know he would absolutely love it. My only reluctance has come from wondering if the people who go to the dog park all have common sense enough to realize that only polite, non-vicious dogs should be let loose in the park. My dog is almost 14 years-old (too old to defend himself from another dog), and he thinks every other dog in the world is his friend. I would just hate to put him in a situation where he'd get his snout snapped off. Also, if I went, I'd be taking my six-year-old son, too, so I'd have the same safety concerns for him.

Does anyone have any experience with going to the dog parks? Is common sense being used out there? I know I'm a big worry-wart, but I think we'd all agree that there's a huge common sense deficit in the world right now.

We don't have a dog, but my kids and I went once with a friend who has three. I though it was awesome! There were probably 20-25 dogs there that day--a Sunday if I remember correctly. It didn't seem crowded at all. I was most impressed with how clean the area was--everyone was very good at picking up their dog's "waste." I would at least give it a try. If you think it's too busy or the dogs are too wound up that day, the dog park is up the hill from a people park with a walking trail and a small playground. You can walk the trail and ooh and ahh across the creek at all of Mulhall's trees. :-)

I've heard of that dog park and I guess there are others in the area. I haven't been to one before. What are they like? I mean, is there a track for them all and places for water? How are they different from a regular park?
