Pediatrician Earns Advanced Certification,
Offers Extra Help to Nursing Mothers
Omaha, Neb. – Children’s Physicians pediatrician, Erin Loucks, MD, has added a special skill to her practice. In addition to being a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Loucks is also a board-certified and registered lactation consultant.
“As a pediatrician, I was interested in finding ways to help ensure successful breastfeeding with moms in those first few appointments after childbirth,” shared Dr. Loucks. “It’s important to help mothers work through breastfeeding issues, to answer their questions and to provide them with extra support.”
The certification process requires 1,000 hours of working with mothers and babies in support of breastfeeding, and at least 45 hours of related education. The final step involves a written test administered by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
“As a mom myself, I know how breastfeeding can be a positive experience for mother and child. I’m excited to offer this additional assistance to new mothers and their babies, and also to share this knowledge with medical residents and students,” Dr. Loucks said.
Dr. Loucks offers lactation consultations to mothers and babies by appointment and referral on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Children’s Physician’s Dundee office. To contact her office, call (402) 955-7676.
