I ran across an article about an Australian toy called "Bindeez." As I started reading, I realized these are the same as Aqua Dots. The article said that the beads are made with a chemical that works like a date rape drug. When swallowed, kids can become VERY sick. Now, I'm not sure if this is an urban myth or not, but I will not buy these for my kids any time soon. Here is the link to the article I read:

Play safe!

Hi MomAC,
Thanks for the heads up on this! I was actually thinking about buying the Aqua Dots as a present for my niece, but I'm not going to now. I'd rather play it safe than sorry.
UPDATE...I was just watching NBC News tonight and they announced that all Aqua Dots have also been recalled and pulled off shelves!!! They said three Australian kids, and two US kids have swallowed the dots and become seriously ill. If your child has this toy, get rid of it asap. Read this quote from the article:
"The two U.S. children who swallowed Aqua Dot beads went into nonresponsive comas, commission spokesman Scott Wolfson said Wednesday afternoon."
