I've decided to dress up in a costume when I take my son to his Halloween events this year. He was so happy when I told him that I wondered why I haven't thought of doing this before. Anyway, whenever we're at the store, he drags me to the costume aisle and makes suggestions about what costume I should buy. The problem with store-bought costumes is that most of them, like the witch costumes, have this kind of "lusty tavern wench" look to them that is completely inappropriate for accompanying your child trick-or-treating. My son also begs me to get one of the female superhero costumes, like Wonder Woman, which is an equally scary prospect since I don't think "aging hooker" is an appropriate look either.
Is anyone else dressing up this year? If so, what are you wearing?

Okay, here's my *serious* Halloween costume suggestions for you (keeping in mind that you're going to be around 5 year-olds):
Fairy Godmother...this would be pretty easy. Just buy or make a colorful cape and hat, buy a wand and some glitter to sprinkle around, and wear black jeans/pants and black tee/turtleneck.
Ladybug...wear black jeans/pants and black tee/turtleneck, and then make some large ladybug foamboard/cardboard cut-outs for your front and back (wear it like a 'sandwich' sign). You could wear a headband with antennae sticking out of it (use pipe-cleaners), and paint a big red circle on both of your cheeks.
Here's my best suggestion for you (and no, it's not a joke):
Kim Possible! The clothes are easy, but I'm not sure what else she uses. I know she wears some gloves, and I think she has some sort of walkie-talkie, and then there's some sort of belt and something that's around her leg. You'd have to check it out.

I think Rhonda has given up on the Wonder Woman costume way too soon. (And I say that as someone who is married to her.) Let's try to keep an open mind - that's all I'm asking.

Up until last year my husband and I would always dress up with our children. Some of our past costumes included Spongebob, Scooby-Doo, Flintstones, Peter Pan (and yes I had to dress up as Tinker Bell; and by the way an all white costume is not flattering at all :o ), and the Toy Story.
One year we made an airplane for my oldest and we were his air traffic controllers. My husband and I had a lot of fun planning and creating the costumes. Unfortunately my oldest has moved on and wants to be a "scary monster" and no longer wants to dress in a theme. It was fun while it lasted :)

Okay, Velveetah!
When I started this website, I swore I would never get political, but now you've taken it there, so just remember that when I say what I've got to say. I would take lusty tavern wench or aging hooker over Hilary Clinton any day. Also, Hilary is just way too scary for kids.
And as for Pa Barker's comment, I know he is just indulging fond memories of Lynda Carter cast as Wonder Woman from the 1970's television show of the same name. Pa, may I remind you that I bear no physical resemblance to the Lynda Carter of your memories -- none whatsoever. I say "memories" because Lynda Carter is probably in her 60's now, and her most recent jobs have been parts in movies on the Lifetime Channel, which you despise or at least pretend to dispise. Maybe you watch Lynda Carter movies in the middle of the night when I'm asleep?
Thanks, momof2boys. I appreciate your thoughtful and dignified response. I might go with a theme. My son is going to be Spider-Man from Spider-Man 3, so I might see what I can work out that goes along with that. Problem is, I'm too old to be M.J., but not old enough to be Aunt May. Now, here's a thought: maybe I'll go as Venom!
