I just signed up for a 13-week session of Tuesday night adult water pilates classes at Swimtastic. I didn't even know that Swimtastic offered these classes until a neighbor told me about them and how much she had enjoyed her first couple of classes. I get bored doing the same types of excercises and workouts over and over again, and I'm always willing to try something new, so I decided to give the water pilates classes a try. I went to my first class last night. It was challenging, but not overly so and very fun. Using leg weights, foam hand weights, kick boards and those floating noodle devices we did a variety of strength training/resistance exercises while in the water. These included exercises designed to to target arms, shoulders, back, core, butt, hips, thighs and calves. I liked the fact that because I was in the water, I didn't sweat. I felt pleasantly relaxed after the class and slept very soundly last night. I didn't feel sore when I woke up this morning, as I was expecting, but I did start to feel it more later in the day today.
Time will tell how effective these classes will be in helping me get fit. Of course, it will help a lot if I improve my eating and up my cardio. I think I can stick with these classes over the summer because they are only once a week and last only 30 minutes. The class I'll be attending is from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. which is perfect for me because my husband is home then, and we don't have to rush through dinner so that I can get there on time. Also, Swimtastic is fairly close to home for me. I'll let you know how it works out for me as I take more classes.
If water pilates is something that you think you'd like to try, you can visit Swimtastic's website at www.swimtastic.com (http://www.swimtastic.com). Or, call them at 496-7946. They offer a Thursday evening adult water pilates class, also.
