Great news if you have an old computer that you are no longer using ...

A chance to chuck a computer for free. Lighten your technological load for free at a computer drop-off Saturday, September 29th.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Burke High School, individuals can bring one
computer system for free disposal by CP Recovery.

Additional computer equipment will be accepted for a $5 fee.
Televisions will be $10.

Organizers will not accept microwaves or kitchen appliances.

For more information, call Jeremy McNeal at 331-1630.

Just for the record, CP Recovery normally charges 35 cents a pound to recycle computer hardware.

This is a good deal. Computers in landfills are a bad idea. Finding a way to dispose of things in a responsible way is ideal, but it's kinda hard to find a way to do it. I took a computer to a place downtown a few years ago that specialized in recycling, but they were so out of the way I doubt many people took the time to do the same. Cell phones are a problem, too. I thought I read somewhere that Best Buy offered recycling, but I'm not sure.

You can use a used cell phone to call 911 without paying anything at all. Cell phones are regulated by the FCC. The FCC requirements state that ALL cell phones, regardless of the status of service (or even the lack of service,) shall be able to dial 911. Whether you have a telephone number or not, whether you have signed up for service or not, the cell phone can connect to 911. In fact there are many places that accept and give the recycled cell phones to domestic abused women. If you want to send your own in click on the link below for a mailing label with free shipping.
