I just wanted to recommend a really cute Halloween story I found to read to my 5-year-old. It's called, In The Haunted House, and it's by Eve Bunting. The book takes you and your child on a tour of a haunted house that's more funny than it is scary. By the end of the book, you find out that you have followed a dad and his daughter through the house and that the daughter wants to go through the house again. The daughter's sentiments are shared by my son -- the mixture of fear, curiosity, and excitement about scary Halloween things.

For Halloween books for kids, I like Dav Pilkey's books Dragon's Halloween and The Hallo-Weiner. The first book actually has 3 short stories in it about a little dragon who loves Halloween, but has a series of misadventures. The second book is about a dachsund whom everyone makes fun of, especially when his mom makes him a hot dog costume for halloween, but then he saves the day, and becomes everyone's hero. Both books are very funny and not scary, so they're okay for young kids. Veronica
