Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge

More than 4,000 acres of woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands; two looped nature trails; and eight miles of grass hiking trails.  Fishing, wildlife observation, bicycling, photography and managed hunting permitted.
DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge
Six Miles West of Missouri Valley, off I-29 (712) 642-4121
This 7,800-acre area includes a 7-mile lake surrounded by woods, wetlands and grasslands.  Hiking, biking and fishing.  Picnic facilities available.
Fontenelle Forest Nature Center

National Historic Landmark featuring 1400 acres of densely wooded hills, hollows, and marshes.  Fifteen miles of trails, including two barrier-free boardwalks with interpretive labels. Includes the Katherine and Fred Buffett Forest Learning Center.
Hitchcock Nature Center

Hiking trails, archery range; sled run and cross-country skiing in winter.  Nature trail accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.  Home to Loess Hills Wildlife Preserve.
Neale Woods Nature Center

Native prairie, deep woods and scenic views on 550-acre preserve 15 minutes north of downtown Omaha.
